Once inside, the lights dimmed to show an advertisement for the upcoming Blu-Ray release for the season 2 box set. Writer / Producer Jeph Loeb then came out to the stage to greet the audience. Apparently the cast was stuck in the elevator. Jeph thanked the Comic-Con crowd for spreading the word and making the show a huge success. He then gave an audience member waving a (Jedi) light saber way in the back of the room a copy of the Heroes soundtrack. As the guy ran to the front, another guy carrying a Sith light saber challenged him to a duel. Jedi guy finally won and got his CD.
After a bit more stalling involving some audience cheering and chanting, Jeph finally announced the cast of Heroes. They all walked out onto the stage. Greg Grunberg, Jack Coleman, Adrian Pasdar, and Masi Oka took pictures / filmed the audience with their cameras. Jeph then introduced showrunner Tim Kring, who came out with a metal briefcase strapped to his wrist. He opened the briefcase to reveal a DVD containing the first episode of Volume 3: "Villains."
The lights dimmed and the episode started. I won’t post spoilers, but I will say that this episode was one of the most jam-packed, intense forty-odd minutes of television I’ve seen. Heroes is back everyone! During the course of the episode, three major questions were answered (if you don’t want to know, skip to the next paragraph): Who shot Nathan Petrelli? What is Angela Petrelli’s power? Most intriguing, what does Sylar do with his victims’ brains? It was clear that the audience approved.
After the episode was over, the cast came back out onto the stage to answer a few audience questions. Before they started, Tim made the Heroes writers in the audience stand up and be thanked. The first person said she was visually impaired and wanted to see Milo Ventimiglia. He ran down to give her a hug and take a couple of photos with her.
The next person congratulated Christine Rose for becoming a full time cast member. She then asked each cast member to describe the new season in a word or two. Jack (Noah Bennet / HRG): "fantastico," Hayden Panettiere (Claire Bennet): "wonderful," Milo Ventimiglia (Peter Petrelli): "melt your brain," Masi Oka (Hiro Nakamura): [answered in Japanese], Greg Grunberg (Matt Parkman): "sexy," Adrian Pasdar (Nathan Petrelli): "you get to see Greg in a thong," Danica Ramirez (Maya Herrera): "cryptic," Zachary Quinto (Sylar): "brouhaha," Ali Larter (Nikki Sanders): "fantastical," Sendhil Ramamurthy (Mohinder Suresh): "deeply dark," James Kyson Lee (Ando Masahashi): "rollercoaster," Christine Rose (Angela Petrelli): "far out and groovy," Tim Sale (artist): "I’m just grateful," Tim Kring: "adrenaline."
With only a few minutes left for questions, Jeph called for a "lightning round." The next person heard that the third season originally had a different title and wanted to know why they went with "Villains." "It was always called ‘Villains.’" Jeph replied quickly.
The next person had camped out overnight, but said he had never actually seen the show. He wanted the panelists to summarize the show. They didn’t even dignify that question with a response and quickly went to the next person, who wanted to know if the actors could have their characters switch powers with anyone else, who would it be. Milo wanted Sylar’s power. Jack would take anyone’s power since HRG doesn’t have one. Hayden wanted Nikki’s power because she’s tired of always being beaten up.
That was followed by a guy dressed as Kensei who was wondering if some of the online content would become DVD special features. The answer was yes and the new Heroes season two DVD should be available August 26th. Among the extras are episodes that never made it on the air.
After that was a little kid who only wished to say that "Silo" is awesome and is the greatest Hero in the series. That was a tough act to follow, but the last person bravely asked Zach what it’s like to play the superawesome supervillain Sylar. "I believe it’s ‘Silo’" was Zach’s reply. He went on to say that he is able to draw from all the people around him and that he was attracted to the character from the first time he read the script and that it was a great joy to work on the show.
Tim then thanked the fans for all their support and time was up.
The Heroes season two DVD is available August 26th. Season three premieres on NBC September 22nd at 9pm Eastern / Pacific.
