SDCC 2011: The Venture Bros.

The Venture Bros panel this year was filled with devoted fans, because when you have the Ventures and The Guild of Calamitous Intent, the costumes get wild..  We saw costumes of Dr. Orpheus, The Monarch, Dr. Mrs The Monarch, Phantom Limb (with light-up arms), Dr. Venture, Henchmen, Henchman 21 with "light saber", and The Orange County Liberation Front to name a few.  All of those in costume were invited by Adult Swim to join in the Venture Bros Costume Contest later that night.

So onto the panel…this year, creators Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick, along with James Urbaniak (voice of Dr. Venture) gave us a preview of what they have been working on and fielded questions from the audience.  The big news was the preview of the music video for Jacket, the hit song by Smooth Gravy.  Smooth Gravy, for those of you who don’t know, is Hank, Dermot, and H.E.L.P.E.R.s band, and Jacket is the song they performed in the Season 4 finale, Operation P.R.O.M.  The video is absolutely hilarious!  According to Doc, they really wanted to just make the video as a DVD extra, but it would only be allowed as an extra if it was an entire episode.  So to get their video done, they’ve made an entire documentary episode that we can at least expect to see as an upcoming DVD extra.  What DVD would this be on; well they did announce that the green light has been given on Seasons 5 and 6, so we can expect to see lost more of the Venture action we’ve come to love.

Questions from the audience came in a variety of subjects and the answers we mostly relevant.  Their official statement for any question of what we can expect to see, or have seen, in the show was “all questions about the show will be answered in the show”.  Other questions discussed included their influences for the show aside from Johnny Quest (which turns out to be everything they love and hate at this point in time), to will there be a Sergeant Hatred children’s action figure (oh god no).  They also let us know that we can expect to see some past (obscure) characters get some more screen time.  It will be fun to get more in depth on some of these now fan favorite characters like the “plug face guy”.  This panel is always fun to be at, Doc and Jackson are hilarious, and if you haven’t seen the show before go over to and start watching it now!
