If you’re looking for a convention that celebrates the creations of Joss Whedon and also help a couple of good causes, WhedonCon 2018 is for you.
WhedonCon has been going strong since 2016, bringing in guests from all over the Whedonverse, which extends from Sunnydale with Buffy and Angel, outer space with Firefly/Serenity, and to unique worlds with Dollhouse. The ‘verse also has part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with The Avengers, the DC-verse with Justice League, and Shakespeare with Much Ado About Nothing. It even includes the story of a villain you can’t help but like (while that task is easier because his super-hero nemesis is so annoying).
This year’s event will be at the Warner Center Marriott in Woodland Hills on May 18th, 19th and 20th.
This year’s guest of honor is Sean Maher, who played Simon Tam in Firefly/Serenity, and also the villainous Don John in Much Ado Without Nothing. He’ll have a special Q and A on Sunday May 20.
Other guests include Buffy alumni James Marsters and James Leary, Dagney Kerr, who was Buffy’s first annoying college roommate, Andrew Ferchland, the “Anointed One” in the first two seasons of Buffy, Jonathan Woodward, who’s been in Buffy, Angel and Firefly, Camden Toy, one of the Gentlemen from the classic Buffy episode “Hush”, Gigi Edgley from SyFy’s Farscape, Miracle Laurie, who played November in Dollhouse, artist George Jeanty, who’s best known for his work on the Dark Horse Buffy comics, and movie wardrobe designer Shawna Trpcic, whose work is literally all over the Whedonverse.
There will be panels ranging from fan fiction to cosplay, karaoke to a “Once More With Feeling” singalong, podcasts to an unofficial Dr. Horrible sequel, and a lot more. There’s also a concert by Marsters’ band, Ghost of the Robot.
There’s also lots to buy, with several vendors set to offer their wares to fans and attendees.
